• A number of areas of a painting/drawing are designed to attract attention, while other areas of the painting/drawing are meant to attract little or no attention

By including multiple prominent subjects/shapes in a piece, an artist can show an equality shared by subjects/shapes that are each treated as significant players within a drama.

An artist might choose such an organizing principle in order to keep the viewer's eye moving from one subject/shape to the next.
