In medium-saturation works, colors found on the color wheel are somewhat muted by mixing with colors on the other side of the color wheel or by mixing with black, gray, and/or brown.
Medium saturation can lend a natural feeling to a work of art, a sense of normalcy, and perhaps emotional steadiness.
Using a somewhat muted palette, the artist can strike a balance between attention given to color and attention given to the forms and shapes depicted.
