Seascape/maritime works include views of oceans, lakes, and rivers, as seen from the water or as seen from land. These images might include beaches, rocky shore lines, harbors, and/or boats.
Artists might choose a particular vantage point on or near the water because of its natural beauty, the drama of its waves or reflections of light, the ships or boats in view, or simply because the scene provides a vehicle for aesthetic expression, allowing the artist to emphasize abstract shapes, mark making, distortions, palette exploration, etc.
