Repeated forms can be used to show multiple moments at once. In one moment, a head is turned to the side and an arm is raised. The head turned the other way and the arm lowered can show another moment in time.
An unusual multiplication of forms might be also reference the supernatural quality of a character being portrayed — an otherwise realistic depiction shifts into the surreal.
